When I was younger, I seriously considered making a career out of photojournalism. At the time I was both a cub reporter and photographer for our local weekly newspaper, the Pacifica Tribune. I would be sent on assignment to cover high school sporting events, City Council meetings, even the occasional house fire. It was fun, and perhaps I even romanticized it a bit at the time – staying up late developing and printing photos, occasionally snapping a really good shot that made the front page, and more importantly, feeling as though I was “doing” something when most of my peers had no idea what they wanted to do or be when they grew up.
Time passed, and my career as a photojournalist faded like a poorly fixed print. Years later I found myself once again behind the lens, focusing on interesting people and places. But something had changed. I no…
